First Visitors and Broadway

Last week I got a text from my aunt letting me know that she and my uncle were in Boston! They were kind enough to take us to dinner Friday night. It was so great to see them! On our way to the restaurant we walked past where the Boston Tea Party took place. We also walked past the court house. The court house has big inscriptions every few steps about government or law. We were geeking out over all the history here. We had a great dinner at Empire and it was so fun seeing family!

On Saturday our day started at 6 AM. We had a bus to catch downtown at 8 that was going to take us New York. The bus ride was about 4.5 hours long and actually wasn't bad at all! I slept a little, enjoyed the scenery and got excited for Broadway. Greg did some homework on the way (lucky him). When we got there we got to walk around a little and popped in to a little place for some pizza. Gotta have pizza while in New York! I was pretty split on my emotions about New York. There was so much going on and some amazing buildings and it was just like in some of our favourite TV shows. But it also smelled terrible. Everywhere we went smelled like smoke and a lot of places smelled like urine. And the city was pretty dirty. Boston is a big city but it's not nearly as dirty as New York is. I also can't believe how many people out here still smoke. But the city was pretty amazing. We headed to Majestic Theater and I was blown away by the theater inside. It was beautiful! There were little chandeliers and amazing wall decor. It really set the perfect mood. Once you go to sit down they don't allow pictures which was kind of too bad because it was amazing! I really can't say enough good things about the play. It was magical. The set was so well done, the actors were phenomenal, the costumes were perfect, and of course the music! Ahh it was so good! I have listened to the music a lot since we got home. If you ever get the chance to see it, you should. There's a reason it's the longest running Broadway play. I will always remember that experience! After the show we stopped at Shake Shack for dinner. Not very exotic, but Shake Shack is a big thing out here and we hadn't tried it yet. It was great! Burgers and fries are some of my favourite foods. Plus we got a shake to share because it's called Shake Shack, hello. We got the Black and White shake and it tasted just like a cookie! So at least we got a little New York in there. We got back on the bus to head home and were so glad again that we didn't drive because the traffic was awful! We tried to sleep a little more, but our driver was a little crazy so we didn't really sleep. We listened to some Harry Potter the rest of the way home and we felt very Halloween-y seeing Phantom and then listening to the Deathday party and the petrified students. We hurried down to the trains when we got into Boston and got there just in time for our train. 2 stops later, the train was as full as I've ever seen. We were completely smashed in there and people still kept trying to squeeze in at every stop. A couple people got shut in the doors. All the college kids were heading to parties out in Allston (undergrad capital of MA seems like). I'll be honest, I didn't know what 98% of the girls were supposed to be for Halloween. I saw a Harley Quinn and a flapper. Everyone else was wearing something skimpy and crazy makeup. Like this one girl was wearing some sort of black leotard and had cat ears on so I thought she must be a cat, but then she also had a sheriff's badge pinned on, so... Not sure what that was haha. We also heard some great conversations so even though we were tired, we were thoroughly entertained the whole train ride home. We were so exhausted but ah it was so good! So worth it!
