1st Year Down!
We've officially been in Boston for a year! I can't believe how quickly time has gone. It's probably gone so quickly because we've been so busy. During the school year Greg is easily gone 10-12 hours a day during the week and would still need to do work on Saturdays. And this year will be even worse since he has more responsibilities. And because he has more stuff going on, I decided to go back to school so hopefully this year goes even faster than last year! We've had a great first year, but I want this year to go by faster because we're finally going to take a trip to Europe that we've been planning for/saving for for almost 5 years and we are so excited. We have had so many amazing opportunities and experiences living here and as hard/crazy/stressful as life can get, I wouldn't trade it for anything. We always talk about places we want to go for a job after grad school and while Europe is the pipe dream, we have added 5 or 6 schools in New England to our list because we just love it here so much. Here's a short list of things we don't like about Boston:
- Rent prices
- No parking/cost of parking
- Roads in terrible condition
- Traffic
- Being far from friends/family
- Proximity of everything (ocean/beaches, other states, Canada, etc.)
- Cheap flights to Europe
- The super affordable farmer's market
- All the parks/green spaces in the middle of the city
- The people/the mix of people here
- The weather (yes the New England winters are bitterly cold, but I still am a fan)
- Fall-it lasts for over a month here and is beautiful
- The history-Salem, Plymouth, Old North Church, etc.
- The accents
- The words they use (like sprinkles are called jimmies, a round about is a rotary, a shopping cart is a carriage, etc.)
- The walkability of the city
- The pride people have being in or from Boston
- The food scene
- All the take out available
- The affordability of good food-ricotta, white cheddar, seafood, etc.
