York Harbour, Maine

Greg had a nice long Easter break from school. He has Thursday-Monday off! He still had work to do of course, but between him having Friday off and me getting off work early due to Good Friday, we decided to take a small trip. We've been wanting to see Maine and thought this would be a good chance to check it out. Greg also found a really great deal for this cute inn in York Harbour, Maine. It included breakfast, $25 dining credit, and the inn was right on the coast! It took us more than 2 hours to get there on Friday, thanks to Good Friday traffic. But we were able to stop at a Chick-fil-a on the way so I can't be too mad. It was a beautiful day, clear blue skies and finally warm! When we got to the inn we got checked in and then got to walk down to the beach. I decided I am truly a New England girl at heart. Don't get me wrong, I like a nice, warm, sandy beach, but I LOVED the cool, rocky beaches here. There was a great cliff walk going along the side of the beach that we walked up a bit.We got to watch the sunset from here and it was so beautiful over the ocean.

The bottom of this has part of the Navy Hymn on it "Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee, For those in Peril on the Sea!"

I loved the inn also! It was so cute and the staff was so friendly and helpful. I totally get why Lorelai always corrects people and tells them she runs an inn because inns are the best! And this inn even had a gazebo so I was really feeling the Gilmore Girls love!

The next morning we went down to the dining room for breakfast. It was so cute! And the dining room was completely surrounded by windows so we could see the beach and the ocean. And they actually had a decent breakfast! Staying at the great, cheap hotels by Disneyland that have free breakfast we got SO tired of those waffles you can make. It was awesome to have fresh made muffins, bagels, bread, English muffins, fruit, juices, granola, and hard boiled eggs. After breakfast we went back down to the beach and enjoyed that before the tide came in. We headed up the road a little ways and stopped at Nubble Lighthouse. It was beautiful! Clear skies, sea breeze, and beautiful blue water. We climbed on the rocks, sat on the benches, and watched the scuba divers go in.

We walked around the neighbourhood a little after that. The houses were all so cute! They were all different but still the New England cottage look. We decided we'd be totally ok with living in Maine one day. For lunch we headed to a place just down the road from the lighthouse called The Lobster Cove. We just got some bowls of "lobstah bisque" and shared some onion strings. It was delish and a great little lunch! We went back to the inn after lunch for a little nap which was great. It's been a long time since we've had a vacation that was just chill and relaxing, it's always go, go, go. It was awesome to just take it easy this weekend. After a little nap we went and got some ice cream in town and went to the grocery store for a couple things we needed for Easter dinner the next day. We drove around looking at some more houses and listening to music. We drove down the coast and it was great! We went to the cutest house converted to an inn for dinner. It was a house built in the 1800's and was so cute. The front two rooms are set up with tables and chairs for dining and during the summer they also set up outdoor dining.

We sat right next to the fireplace which was really warm, but also great! We started with a cheese board to share. It was warm brie, bread, apples and pear slices, house made honey roasted nuts, and the chef's own honey. He keeps his own bees and presses the honey himself. It was soo good! The warm and gooey brie was excellent with the honey, fruit, bread and nuts. We were huge fans! Then we split a sirloin steak, fingerling potatoes, and some asparagus. Everything was good, but not as great as the cheese board. And then because we didn't get enough of the honey and nuts, we shared the parfait for dessert. Vanilla gelato, honey, the honey roasted nuts, and whip cream on top. Oh it was so good! I can't get over how delicious the honey was. We actually ended up buying a jar of it to bring home.

We left very full and happy and went and walked along the beach again. It was totally dark at this point, but we just love listening to the water. We finished the night watching the Jazz game. Well the first quarter of the game, I must be getting old because staying up past 11 is a real struggle for me. The next morning we learned the Jazz won, yay!, and then packed up to head out. We went down for breakfast, took another look at the ocean and headed home. It was such a great weekend. Work was absolutely insane last week and that was the perfect way to unwind. I love that we're close enough that we could just go back up for a day trip if we wanted, we got home in less than an hour and a half on Sunday, although admittedly, the nice relaxing weekend came to an abrupt end as soon as we got close to Boston because driving in Boston is seriously the WORST. I love that in that time though we hit 3 states! Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. We got home in time for me to make a fruit tart for Easter dinner dessert before going to church. We just got called to nursery so we had our first week in nursery and it was a blast! And exhausting, but in the best way! We had an excellent Easter Sunday and enjoyed the 80 degree weather.

On Monday, Greg had school off for Patriot's Day. I still had to work, but at lunch we went for a walk and checked out the Boston Marathon. The route goes right by our apartment. We saw a guy running with a prosthetic leg and carrying a huge American flag and later found out he was a vet! Super cool! The energy here was crazy though! People were everywhere, 25,000 runners, and there was only a little bit of tension with the police officers everywhere. This city definitely hasn't recovered from the bombing a few years ago. I may not be a Bostonian, but I feel a lot of pride to live here. Next year we are going to try and get up really early to see the reenactment of the Battle of Lexington that they do at 5 or 6 AM every year. Needless to say, we are still loving Boston, and all of New England really, and can't wait for the 4 or 5 more years we get to spend here.
